Remember Lord…

Last week, my pastor spoke about Hezekiah.  He was at the point of death and the prophet Isaiah came to him and said, “This is what the Lord says:  Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”  Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.  Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him:  “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you.  On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord.  I will add fifteen years to your life.  And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria.  I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’ ” (2 Kings 20: 1-6)

There were some key things that my pastor pointed out and some hard questions he asked.  Hezekiah was able to say to God remember that I have been faithful in my walk with you with all my heart and I have done what pleases you.

When faced with a difficult circumstance are you able to say remember Lord?  Have you done anything for Him to remember?  Have you made Him smile or have you done just enough to get by?

Has your walk been wholehearted or do you have Him compartmentalized?  Can people see Him in you by your walk – in all places and at all times?  This doesn’t mean you’re perfect, but it does mean He’s always present.

When you do something that’s not pleasing to Him, do you weep because you know you’ve done wrong?  Hezekiah’s tears got God’s attention.  They showed that he really cared about the wrong that He had done.  As my pastor said, there is something about your tears that gets God’s attention when it’s about things that He cares about.

Ask yourself these questions and really listen for the answers.  As you continue your journey with Christ, create a life that allows you to say, “Remember, Lord…”
